What would it take to convince them that they had got Jesus all wrong?
The gospel of John
John 20:30-31 “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.  But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

The Wedding
John 2:1-  Cana in Galilee. (show map and picture)

“Why did Mary come to Jesus?”
An unusual reply –  “Dear woman why do you involve me is the way

Not the right timing
At the wedding … “my time has not yet come” (2) …
just before Jesus is betrayed… “the time is now here” (13, 17)…
just before he died… “it is finished” (19:30).

Do what he says anyway
the best wine ever and it was provided in abundance.

Some things worthwhile knowing
It was real alcoholic wine
.. but not as potent

The impact of this passage on us today
The first sign of “Who Jesus is”
–    I t reveals Jesus glory
–    It results in them putting their faith in him.
1)    Wine in abundance
Isaiah 25:6-8 “On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine- the best of meats and the finest of wines. On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth.  The LORD has spoken.
(Jer 31:12, Hosea 14:7, Amos 9:13)
… a sign of the Messiah

2)    A sign of his power and authority
… power and authority over his creation.
John 1:3, “Thorough him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made“.

Have you really put your faith in Jesus?
