Setting the scene
–    Isaiah 1-5 – the threat of God’s judgement on Judah
–    Isaiah 6-12 – he promises to rescue them

The greatness of human achievement

Isaiah 2:22,” stop trusting in man who has but breathe in his nostrils. Of what account is he”

Isaiah 8:12 – “the LORD almighty is the one you are to regard as Holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread,”

Babylon’s great pride

Dan 4:30, “is this not Babylon the great, which I myself have built as a royal residence by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty”.

Isaiah 13:11 – “I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless”

God brings devastating Judgement on human pride

… cruelty toward God’s people – Isaiah 14: 2-3, 14:6
Hebrews 9:27, “man is destined to die one and then to face judgment”
Restoration –  Isaiah 14:1-2.

Applying this today

1)    Trust in the sovereignty of God
God is ruling all history?

What should we be doing?
–    Isaiah 37:16 … trust God.
–    Daily live your life under Christ’s rule
–    Where you stand and what you believe.

2)    Realise the outcome of human pride
