(1) The Spirit pleads the Father’s cause (v16)
John 14:16, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever”.
… send another just like him.

= acts on your behalf for your cause.
The Spirit is there to advocate for the Father
The Spirit of Truth.
… ultimate truth, God’s divine reality and nature
(2) The Spirit indwells the Father’s children (v17)
v 17, “the world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you”
v 20, “on that day you will realise that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you” .
v 22-23 results in the Father and the Son making a home with those who are obedient.
The Spirit = a free gift
The Spirit is not going to possess you
The Spirit is going to indwell you
(3) The Spirit instructs the disciple’s minds (v26)
Ephesians example
(4) The Spirit brings peace to the disciple’s hearts (v27)
For us today
(1) Word and Spirit go together
(2) Holiness comes about through the work of God’s spirit AND our pursuit of obedience
How are you allowing God’s Spirit word to instruct your minds?
How prayerful are you in asking for God’s spirit to help you understand and obey God Spirit inspired word?
Hear the great comfort. “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them”
…we are all heading in one direction.
