Turning Away

2 Timothy 3:10-4:4

John 6:60-71

What would it take for you to stop following God and turn away?

We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so we will not drift away. Hebrews 2:1

Reactions towards Jesus

  1. The Jewish leaders
  2. The crowd
  3. The disciples…

John 6:60 – what Jesus says is offensive

The Offensive Jesus

What is it that caused these disciples offense?
John 6:32 – God the Father is HIS Father.
John 6:29-35 – He is the ONLY means by which the Father will save people.
John 6:44 – You cannot even have eternal life unless you come to Jesus … unless he draws you to him.
“If this offends you, how much more will you be offended if I just returned to the Father”?

Many Leave

John 6:66 – “many of the disciples leave”.
John 8:31, “if you hold to my teaching you are really my disciples”

Jesus asks the 12

John 6:67, “Do you want to go also?”
“Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of Eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of Israel”
