Why?
Judas returns
Prior attempts
– John 7:30
– John 7:45
1) Jesus arrest was no surprise
‘time has come’.
John 18:4
2) Jesus embraces his arrest and none of his disciples are lost
John 10:17-18, “The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life – only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father”
… not even the Roman army is able to take Jesus life
… all drew back and fell to the ground.
… Jesus commands those who came to arrest him to let the go.
John 17:12 … kept the disciples safe
3) Jesus is drinking the cup of the Fathers wrath
Verse 11, “Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”
Why? – to bear the punishment we ALL deserve for sinning against God in order to turn away the Father’s righteous anger.
