Exposing Our Blind Spots – Misplaced Identity

3 questions
Do you want more people to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour?
Do you want your family and friends to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour?
Do you want the next generation of church people to remain faithfully following Jesus as their Lord and Saviour?

If we take authentic Christian living seriously it will make it easier for those who are struggling with temptations to take their Christian living more seriously.

What do you find your identity it?
Blind spot # 1 – Misplaced Identity
…shapes us, our values, our actions, our passions, our priorities.

How do you primarily see your identity?
John 1:12 … so that all who believed in him might now have the right to become children of God.
Eph 1:5 … God adopting us as his sons and daughters through the rescuing and redeeming work of Jesus on the cross.

Blind spot … we keep subconsciously seeking our identity in other things or in other experiences just like everyone else around us.

… if you do not find your identity as a child of God you will not be seeking to live as a child of God as you travel.

Why it is good for us?
… it glorifies and honours God.
… John 10:10 … life in all its fullness
… the more we remind … the more we will resist
Every Christian will always be a struggler against sin or one sort or another.

Why it is good for our fellow Christians
… to see others taking their faith in Jesus seriously is a huge encourager for us to take our faith seriously.

Why it helps with people becoming followers of Jesus
1 Peter 2:11-12 – “Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”

A final question
How can we make sure our identity (both as individuals and as a church) is defined by God’s word not by the world around us?
