1 Peter 1:13-25 – Where Is Your Hope?

Proverbs 29:1-27

1 Peter 1:13-25

1 Peter 1:13-25 – Where is your hope?

… founded on the reality of past events.
… that looks forward to being with God in heaven for all eternity.

Because of the hope that you have
Verse 13 … how we should live because of the hope that we have.
…four big differences that following Jesus should make to the way we live.

Command #1 – Set your hope fully – v13
Verse 13 – set hope fully
“have minds that are alert”.
“being sober minded”

For us today…
preparing your mind by seeking to know and understand what his word says?
alert regarding both potential and actual attacks on truth concerning God?
alert regarding false teaching?
alert regarding gospel opportunities?

Command #2 – Be Holy
Verse 15
…put what we know of God’s word into practice.
… be seeking to reflect his character

For us today…
be the people who live Godly lives obedient to what God wants.
… put aside ungodly thinking and actions?

Command #3 – Live lives as strangers in reverent fear
Verse 17 -21
… this grace that God lavishes on us is NEVER cheap.

For us today…
Do you let your knowledge of God’s grace undermine your desire to be obedient to God’s word?
Do you let your knowledge of God as your heavenly Father undermine your understanding of his holiness?
Does the awesome reality of God’s character spur you on to live in obedience to him?

Command #4 – Love one another deeply from the heart
Verse 22-25
… Not superficially… not lightly but deeply from the heart.

For us today…
where our masks are dropped, where honesty prevails, where communication occurs and where community abounds?
