The Mission Of The King

1 Samuel 15:1-30

What does God think of our failure to heed his word if we have kept all the religious ceremonies?

God’s clear command
… wipe them off the face of the earth
… A long and violent history
Firstly – not the desire of a sinful power hungry human leader.
Secondly- God’s perfect, just and righteous judgement.

Saul’s rejection by God
The camp is filled with things they had not destroyed.
…sin that blinds the sinner.
… hardened and unrepentant.

What does God think of us being very religious when it involves us not listening to his word?
1 Sam 15:22 – “does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord. To obey is better than sacrifice and to heed is better than the fat of rams”
Verse 23 – “Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as King”.
God desires our obedience to HIS word.

Why Saul’s repentance is rejected?
Saul admits his sin and seeks forgiveness but
Verse 24 –  he tries to blame others
… more concerned with his honour

The desperate need for Jesus to save
The one leader king who remained 100% faithful to the word of God
