John 1:1-18 – In the Beginning

Proverbs 1:1-19

John 1:1-18

How important is Jesus for Christianity?

Who is JESUS?

What did he come to do?
Why did the apostle John write it and why did he include what he did?
John 20:30-31, “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

An overview of John
EVIDENCE …
BELIEF…
LIFE … DEATH
John 3:36, “whoever believes in the Son has Eternal Life but who ever rejects the Son will not see Life for God’s wrath remains on him

In the beginning
John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God…

The Word is involved in creation
John 1:3
Colossians 1:16-17, “for by him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities, all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things and in him all things hold together.

The word gives LIFE and purpose
Verse 4-5 … humanity finds its life in the Word.
John 1:6 – John the Baptist is sent to bear witness to the light. (John 8:12)
People continued in their unbelief

The Word became flesh
Verse 14 – The word became flesh and dwelt among us.

So what do you believe about Jesus the Word?

Reflect – How have you responded to Jesus?
Since Belief is an active word … how is this evident in your life?
