Isaiah 55:1-13 – Eternal Certainties

Isaiah 54:1-55:13

“(I can’t get no) Satisfaction”.

A thirst quenching invitation
If you want your thirst quenched then come to God.

Isaiah 55:1, “Come to the waters all you who are thirsty.”
Isaiah 55:2, Why seek after things simply do not deliver?
Isaiah 55:3-4 – covenant faithfulness
Isaiah 55:5 – stand out among the nations

Seeking God means change
Isaiah 55:6 – An invitation with a warning.
Isaiah 55:6-7 – “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.”

What to change?
Verse 9 – God thoughts are not like ours and his ways are higher than ours.

… putting aside things of the past that clearly do not bring satisfaction.

Verse 11 – God’s word reveals God’s plans and thoughts.

Understanding Isaiah 55 in light of Jesus
John 4:10-14 “Jesus answered her, ”If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” ”Sir,” the woman said, ”you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?  Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?” Jesus answered, ”Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
John 7:37-39 – “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.’ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

For us today
1)    Where re you seeking satisfaction?
Where are you seeking satisfaction in life?

2)    Understand our world
We live in a world that desperately seeks satisfaction in life.
“Why aren’t the thirsty queuing up at the door of bible believing churches to hear of the eternal satisfaction the God brings?”

Faithful speak God’s word and point people towards Jesus
