Eight Reasons to Give God Another Chance

I meet lots of people who used to go to church. They used to be in the choir, used to be an altar boy, used to go to Sunday school. It would be fair to say that more people used to follow Jesus than seem to now. For some of course they went but never understood what a relationship with God is all about but they went because they had to, but for others life has changed and so to has the place God plays in their life.

Sadly it seems that many of these people used to be followers of Jesus but now, well they do not seem to live with him as the boss of their lives. It is almost as if they think following Jesus is only a temporary phase of life? something you used to do.

Well what point is it to run three quarters of a race and then drop out. As one who loves to watch motor racing one of THE races that shows the need to finish is the V8 super cars at Bathurst. You can lead the race for 900 of the 1000kms then blow your engine and on the score board you will have DNF (Did Not Finish).

In the last few weeks we have bee reading the book of Hebrews with our family and one of the warnings from God?s word was the need to make sure you do not drift away from following God. Don’t end up with a DNF on your score board. The way Hebrews puts it is this, “do not drift away”, “Do not harden your hearts towards Jesus and miss out on his promised rest”.

If you have found that you have drifted why not rediscover the truth of the claims of Jesus. There is little doubt that Jesus changed the course of history and that He has made an enormous impact on peoples lives in every generation and culture. He is certainly worth investigating. Not only are His claims audacious if He is not God the Son, but they are too good to miss out on.

A quiet reading of The New Testament, will go a long way to waking us up if we have not come alive to the Main Man of history. It is said that you can tell the size of a ship by the wake it leaves behind. The wake that Jesus leaves behind is without equal. Jesus influence on all of our history and what we consider essential to community and mutual respect is great by any reckoning.

Here are eight reasons why we ought to give Jesus another chance:

  1. He explains reality
  2. He shares your sufferings
  3. He beats death at its own game
  4. He wants you to share in the winnings
  5. He brings meaning to life
  6. He will turn your life upside down
  7. He’ll stick with you to the end
  8. … and beyond.

If you want to talk about any or all of these 8 reasons or you want a copy of the Bible for free then why not give me a call. We can sit down over a cuppa and have a yarn about God.
