Romans 2:1-16 – God’s Patience and Judgement

Proverbs 2:1-22

Romans 2:1-16

We are not like them!
–     Romans 1:18-32
Rom 1:29-32 – 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,  30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;  31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.  32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

… did not represent all of Roman society.

God’s judgement is inescapable
Romans 2:1
v  2-  he judges according to truth.
v 4 – failure exposed … repentance

God’s Judgement is Right
Verse 5-11
A tangent
v 6-8 – “God will give each person according to what he has done. To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory and honour and immortality, he will give eternal life. But to those who are self seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger
NOT salvation by good works?
My works expose that I am deserving of God’s wrath

Romans 3:10-12- “There is no one righteous not even one; no one who understands, no one who seeks God, all have turned away
Romans 1:16 – the power of God for the salvation of everyone.

God’s judgement is impartial
But what about the person who has never heard?

… they do not obey the little they know to be right.

How does this apply to us?
