Isaiah 52:13-53:12 – Salvation Accomplished

Isaiah 52:13-53:12

Acts 8:26-40

It has been accomplished!

What is going to happen to the servant?
Isaiah 52:13 – 53:12 = 5 verse song
Verse 1 – Is 52:13-15 – The servant’s victory through his suffering
Verse 2 – Is 53:1-3 – the servant’s suffering and humiliation
Verse 3 – Is 53:4-6 – he was pierced for our transgressions (MAIN POINT)
Verse 4 – Is 53:7-9 – the servant’s suffering and humiliation
Verse 5 – Is 53:10-12 – The servant’s victory through his suffering

Isaiah 53:5 – “he was pieced for our transgressions, and crushed for our iniquities; and the punishment that bought us peace was upon him, by his wounds we have been healed”.
1)    The Servant will triumph
Isaiah 52:13-15 – “He will be raised up and exalted” –
Is 53:10-12 = fifth verse of song
Is 53:10, “he will see his off spring and prolong his days”,
Is 53:11, “after the suffering of his soul he will see the light of life and be satisfied.”
Is 53:12, “Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he has poured out his life unto death and was numbered among the transgressors for he bore the sins of many, and made intercession for the transgressors”.
A shocking verse – Is 53:10, “Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer.”
2)    The servant will suffer
Isaiah 53:1-3 = verse 2 of song
… like a bad smell
despised … & rejected
Isaiah 53:7-9 = verse 4 of song
… Oppression and affliction
Verse 9 – done no violence nor spoken deceit.
What plan or purpose of God could ever allow such a horrific thing to happen to the Servant?
3)    The servant will justify many
Isaiah 53:4-6 = verse 3 of song = main point
Is 53:4 – he is going to take up our infirmities .. our sorrows
Is 53:5 – he is going to be pierced for our transgressions and crushed for OUR iniquities … bring us peace
Is 53:6 – the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. ALL of us like sheep have gone astray … all of us need rescuing and the servant is the one who will rescue us.
What impact will the suffering of the servant have on people and on us?
Is 53:5 – the punishment that bought us peace
Is 53:11… justified by the actions of the servant.
Is 53:12, “he bore the sins of many and made intercession for the transgressors’.
