Psalm 31:1-24

Insert Monty Python skit

Defining terms
1) Euthanasia = “an easy or gentle death”
It is deceptive …
–    sometimes a long time to die
–    trauma caused in families
–    face God – Heb 10:31, “it is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God”

2) Voluntary Euthanasia = when death is chosen by the sufferer.
and Non – Voluntary Euthanasia = death without consent

3) Active Euthanasia – active means to end another person’s life
Passive Euthanasia – not taking a necessary step to save someone else’s life when you could have.

4) Prolonging life or just prolonging death.

5) A difference in motives

Dangers and problems of Euthanasia
1) Death is irreversible

2) People are fallible
Deuteronomy 32:39, “See now that I myself am He! There is no God besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand.”
1 Samuel 2:6, “The LORD brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up.”
Psalm 90:3, “You turn men back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, O sons of men.”
Psalm 31:15, “My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.”
2 Kings 5:7, “As soon as the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his robes and said, “Am I God? Can I kill and bring back to Life?””
Genesis 9:6, “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.”
Deuteronomy 5:17, “You shall not murder”

3) People are sinful.

4) Legalising does not protect
the example of abortion legislation
2009 SA – 5852 babies killed
2009 Australia 76 500 babies killed
210 per day
USA 1973 – 2008 – 50 million babies killed
= 3900 babies killed every day for 35 years straight
= World Trade Centre every day for 35 years

A Christian perspective
1) God’s rule or man’s

2) Self centred

3) Rejects God’s value on human life.

4) Euthanasia fails to understand the sinful potential of humans

5) Fails to love
